Hi-

Does anyone know what the qualifications are to be offered acceptance to the Honors College? Does this generally mean that scholarship money will also be offered?

We are OOS, and loved the school, but the price is high for us OOSers.

No hard and fast rule…If you have 700+ on SAT CR and M, and a 3.8 or higher unweighted average, I’d say you may money. LOTS of people lower/higher are exceptions to this…it’s by no means set. For OOS, all of the merit awards (other than Banneker/Key) are great, but they will still leave you with a heavy tuition bill. (And UMD does NOT meet all unmet need…there’s just not enough $$). If the grades are stellar (meaning all or mostly A’s in lots of AP/IB courses) and the SAT’s are in the high 700’s for each, there’s a reasonable chance for consideration for the Banneker Key. AGAIN, there are EXCEPTIONS to this. You’ll be blown away by how many exceptionally bright students apply each year. Most every MD student who is competitive for Ivy Leagues, etc. usually applies to UMD as their “safety” and it’s amazing what these people have done already in high school!!! Like most public state U’s, they limit the # of OOS students they accept, and they do try to spread it out geographically, so an OOS student from somewhere OTHER than NJ or NY has a better chance of getting in…

Thanks, you were helpful. I think a little higher on the next SAT try and she may qualify.
