just adds to the reasons I am so high on Pitt right now.

Go Pitt! I have one happy student there.

Yup, same here!

We just visited PITT last week and my daughter really was impressed. I was concerned about the size of Pittsburgh as we are from the rural midwest but D felt very comfortable there. She submitted an application before we left!

Pittsburgh is a big-little town. It has a great little town feel with big town amenities. It’s the best of both worlds.

When we visited, I considered Pittsburgh a “city with training wheels”. The urban environment without the intensity of NYC / Boston / Philly. D2 is excited to be there by the end of the month!

I am from the rural Midwest, MidwestPop, so I understand your concerns. I would agree with the two posters above me in that Pittsburgh has many of the good things bigger cities offer and fewer of the big city issues. I would add that my daughter, who just finished her freshman year and went back for a summer program, grew up in quite a sheltered community and aside from a couple of bumps, she has adjusted well to city life. And this small-town Iowa girl is not unhappy that she picked Pittsburgh over Chicago and Washington, D.C. for her undergraduate expereince.

Yay! I remember filling out the Princeton Review survey.

Thanks for the comments about Pittsburgh. I’m beginning to get a little more comfortable that my small town midwest D could have a great experience there. It will be interesting to see how the merit aid works out!!

To me, Pittsburgh has a strong Midwestern vibe in that the people are friendly and much more laid-back than where I’m from!

So true. The whole Oakland area with Carlow-Pitt-CMU has that “college town” feel with all the big city amenities. I have no problem walking from my dorm to the library and back after dark. I feel safer on the Pittsburgh buses than on my local ones (I live an hour away, and the buses are nothing but creepers and Amish).

I honestly can say that I am very happy at Pitt and wouldn’t want to go to school anywhere else!
