I just got into UChicago and am absolutely ecstatic! The core sounds great, the city is amazing, and the intellectual vibe is just what I'm looking for. My only concern is how much work it is exactly. Yes, I know it's a rigorous school that will require a few hours of studying a day, and I definitely don't mind that. But does the amount of work not allow students to pursue as many outside activities? Are there often weekends when there is no time to go out at night? Is there no time to actually go out and explore Chicago? While I love the whole life of the mind idea I definitely need a break and some time to just relax with friends at least once a week.

I know there are many threads related to this but a lot of them are kind of dated!

My D is a fourth year. As have all of her friends, she’s had plenty of time to explore Chicago, be active in outside activities, go out, and live a life. Chicago has a deserved rigorous academic reputation, and you have to like that side of it. But it doesn’t have to be your only side.

You’ll definitely have time to relax with friends, and more than once a week! As long as your time-management skills are okay, you’ll be fine. :)
