Quality of teaching in engineering depts at Alfred University and SUNY-New Paltz?

Would appreciate any impressions as to the quality of teaching in the engineering programs at Alfred University and SUNY-New Paltz. Our D got into them both and needs to decide. She wants a small school that has engineering (mostly interested in materials/mechancial side of things) but also a strong arts culture. To what extent do the professors in these programs really make their courses engaging? Do they get to know their students as people, to understand their passions?
Thanks in advance for any responses!

I can’t speak to either very directly, other than to say that Alfred has one of the few materials programs deeply focussed on ceramics.

ME and MatE don’t overlap a lot so she’ll likely have to pick a lane. Most ME’s take Materials, but just one or two classes. MatEs don’t do much mechanical stuff.

I’m guessing there’s a significant cost difference. Does that matter?

Lastly, I flagged this to be moved to the Engineering Forum. I don’t know if the moderators will, but you’ll likely get more feedback there.

Congrats on her acceptances!
