queens or hunter? CUNY

i just got accepted to both and im not sure which one to attend.. does anyone have any suggestions?

bump.. does anyone have any comments on which school is better?

Congratulations on your acceptances. What do you plan to major in and have you visited both? The answers to these questions may help you find your answer and help others here advise you.

is that Queens college? There's a joke in my school that anyone with a pulse can get in Queens college. However, I've known some successful people to have graduated from there. There is no joke about Hunter, so I guess that's viewed better.

i plan on majoring in communications.. which is now referred to as media/film studies at both queens and hunter.. ive actually heard that queens is harder to get into than hunter.. and queens has 35% acceptance rate and hunter has 37%.. not much of a difference tho loll

If I were you I would check how much funding is being allocated to each school, because every year the state tends to cut more and more programs.

Hunter is probably the one of the better respected CUNYs so Id go there.

In the CUNY system you have to make your own way. Each school can provide you with an excellent education, if you select your courses well and work hard. Both Queens and Hunter have good departments in various fields, but you have to do some digging (Hunter, I believe, began its life as a teachers' college). Visit both, figure out which communications department is the best for you, and figure out which campus makes you most comfortable (Queens is more "campusy" and Hunter sits on top of a #6 train stop). When you visit Hunter, have a slice at Mariella Pizza on Lex and 70th. If the two communications departments share faculty (and thus are equivalent), consider which school is an easier commute. Don't discount the time you'll save (and exhaustion you'll avoid) by having a 20 minute versus a 60 minute trip each way. Good luck.

It depends on where you live too. You can get excellent education in a reasonable price in either school. If I were you, I would choose the one more close to my house/apartment. If you live in Manhattan or Bronx, you probable want to commute to Hunter. If you live in Queens, you should pick Queens College
