I just got into U of T, St. Michael's college, Humanities and i'm majoring in political science (hoping to go into law). I've also been accepted to Queen's University, same major, but i'm not sure which school is considered better (overall, for my major, faculty wise..etc). If anyone is a current student of either or applying/accepted could you please offer some advise? I'm a bit skeptical about U of T as i heard the teachers aren't good and that you get swamped with homework the first year and that Queen's isn't very popular (just what i've heard not really sure what that means though). Any advice would help, Thanks!

Are you looking to go to law school in the US or in Canada? Toronto generally has a better reputaion in the US than Queens but they are pretty equally rated in Canada.

I have been accepted to Toronto as well as Mcgill and UBC for Commerce and am planning on law school as well. I am having a tough time choosing which school to attend as well so I know what your going through.

My advise though: don't choose a school entirely as a means to an end that is law school. If you can, go to both campuses and see what you like about each of them. Do you like the big city atmosphere of Toronto or the smaller atmosphere of Kingston? If finances are a question for you then you might want to consider if one school is giving you more aid/scholarships since graduating debt free will make getting loans for law school much easier if you need them. Ultimately the school you choose is going to be a huge part of your life for the next 4 years and you want to enjoy the time you have there. Both schools are top academic schools and either one will be excellent, I wouldn't focus on which one will be a tiny better academically and instead focus on a lot of the other things that will influence you at these schools for the next 4 years.

awsomo, thank for the advice. I'm going to go to law school in Canada and i do prefer a smaller city over the bustling city atmosphere of Toronto, so i guess right now i'm leaning towards Queen's. I was just worried Queen's has a good reputation or not, how well known it is in Canada. If it is generally ranked as high as U of T then i probly will choose it in the end. I won't be able to visit either campus any time soon though, hopefully i might get a chance in the summer.

Queen's has a great reputation in Canada.

If I were you, I'd go to Queen's undergrad, UofT for law (assuming you get in, it's the most competitive LS in he country)

icarus218, I go to Queen's and it is one of the highest ranked schools in the country. I love it here =) Kingston is a great little city with a wonderful downtown area. Queen's campus is beautiful and I would definitely recommend coming here!

I have similar dilemma.. I've got offers from Queens Arts [Economics] and UTM [Economics/Political Science]. I heard that Queens Economics quality is better than in Mississauga. Though Kingston is really small city. I am afraid if there is enough of activities and it wont be boring to study there. I havent been neither in Toronto nor in Kingston..

I wouldn’t worry Kingston is a great college town. There is plenty enough to do.

hedgehog,

I live in Mississauga near the UTM campus and trust me, unless you have a car, there is NOTHING in terms of entertainment around there. As a resident, I know that public transit in this city is horrible, whereas, as a Queen’s student, I know that Kingston has TONS of great things to do within walking distance! And things like the arena where concerts and hockey games go on are also close enough to walk, but conveniently located on the bus route as well. The mall is also a quick 15 minute bus ride away. Getting to the mall from UTM campus on the bus?? Good luck! Anyways, don’t let that be your only deterrent from not going to Queen’s, because as far as I’m concerned, there are way more things to keep yourself occupied there than in Mississauga near UTM! =)

I believe he was accepted to St. George as he mentioned St. Mikes, so finding things to do in Toronto, won’t be a problem by any means. That said, i also recommend Queen’s undergrad and U of T law.

Katip!!! Are you crazy!!! Erin mills TC is a twenty minute walk, and square one is a 10 min bus ride!! As for entertainment-there are plenty of malls, theatre, and the like…I too live near the utm campus…and btw u of t has a better reputation worldwide and is consistently ranked in the top thirty best universities in the world…(17 for THE, 28 for us news) queens isn’t even in the top hundred!!!

@ hedgehog1:
That shouldn’t even be a question. UTM is balls. Go to Queen’s.
