Questbridge College Match 2016 Applicant Thread

Finalist! I honestly thought I wouldn’t make it. I’m so excited for the next step.

@kingofderp69 preach

finalist! I was happy until I realized I hadn’t sent any of the materials to the colleges I ranked. I’m worried that the supplemental materials won’t reach them in time… ~X(

IM A FINALIST!!! oh my God I thought I wasn’t gonna make it :(( im sooooo happy!!! Congrats to all of y’all :smiley:

My daughter is a finalist :slight_smile:

Congrats everyone! Finalist or not you are still one step closer to college and to get this far you are all amazing.

Ps, also received an email from a partner school but my daughter is pulling out of Match to do rd

FINALIST!!! I’m so excited!!!

I got selected as a Finalist!!! I’m so happy, congrats to everyone who got selected as well, and to those who didn’t, don’t worry!!! Lots of people have gone to the school of their dreams w/o the NCM scholarship

FINALIST! so happy

And the #s are… Per QB:

“The results are in – and records were broken! Out of an all-time high of 14,491 applications, we selected 5,338 Finalists (also a record number!)”

CONGRATULATIONS everyone!!

HailuMu, I don’t have much insight. Sounds like your D also has an instinct about how she wants to proceed. At some point S realized that he wanted to put everything possible into Yale SCEA so that is what he did, when he chose to forego Match. He is still considered a Questie at Yale even tho he did not use his QB app.

It might be a good moment to point out to finalists that you ALREADY have a great shot now, whether or not you get a match. Very, very few students are matched…but it’s a boost to your application to be designated a QB finalist.

Finalist! :smiley:

So happy to be a Finalist. Don’t think I’ll be matched but it’s a nice reward for all the hard work. Hopefully will get good fortunes in the Regular Decision.

Quick question, does anybody know if I can change from National College Match to using my quest bridge application for Regular Decision. After I ranked my colleges, I decided that regular decision would be best for me. If I filled out the new college match agreement form and checked Regular Decision Only, would I be put of College Match? I’m asking because multiple colleges that I ranked have emailed me saying that they have already received my application.

@olireg02 Yes – there is an optional form entitled “Revised National College Match Rankings” that can be submitted thru November 2nd, allowing you to re-rank or even opt out. You can find it on your Application Management page under the “National College Match and Quest for Excellence” section near the bottom.

Seriously hope I get accepted in the college match process!! Good luck to everyone!!

@monkeylol 16% of QuestBridge Finalists who attempted to Match last year succeeded. And I believe that over 1/2 of all QuestBridge Finalists managed to gain admission to a QuestBridge Partner College either through the Match or Regular Decision process. So the majority of QuestBridge Finalists will have some good options to choose among…

Good Luck

@WWWard Do you know which QB partner college has the highest acceptance rate for QB Finalists? Also, If the college hasn’t received your IDOC will they remove you from the admissions process?

@monkeylol

As for the Match results announced each Dec 1st, my recollection is that UChicago may be… with more than 50 in a cycle in recent years. And that is a hefty percentage when there are only 600 or so in total. I do not recall any partner matching more than UChicago. By comparison, USC only matched with 8 three yrs ago.

Of course, matching results also all depends on where Finalists ranked each school. In 2013, USC may have attempted to match with many more finalists than just 8, but if the majority of those finalists also matched with a college that they ranked higher, that match result is all that is reported.

Most of the LACs seem to match with a final # in the range of mid-teens to mid-twenties. Last year there were like 35 partner colleges and 657 matches. That averages out to be 18 per partner. The real #s though ranged from less than 10 to over 50 per each partner college.

As for RD acceptances, I know that USC, to use that example again, accepts many more during that phase… something like 30-40 I believe. Most schools likely follow the same pattern of accepting a much larger # RD. If 16% are matched on Dec 1st and over 50% are accepted via Match or RD combined, that should tell us that at least another 34% of finalists gain admission via the RD round. And I suspect that UChicago is again among the partners accepting the most of them.

I rarely see an exact breakdown. Maybe this year such a breakdown/list can occur and prove helpful to future year’s applicants/finalists.

As for IDOC, no - I doubt it. College Board did not even send such emails out until Nov 2nd this year, so the colleges have to allow for submission and processing. I am sure that if finalists submit what is needed during the first few days after getting the CB email, they will in turn get the IDOC submissions in to each QB partner before month’s end. And that is really all that QB finalists can do or all that the QB partners can expect.

@WWWard Hey. I’m a QuestBridge finalist who has applied to eight colleges via the National College Match. Of course, with this being particularly competitive (and me assuming that your EFC hurts you if it’s above $0), I am planning ahead and preparing for QuestBridge Regular Decision.
However, there is one thing that confuses me about this “transition” from NCM to RD: Some colleges like UPenn have a check mark under “Finalists who ranked Penn (but did not match)” for the Common Application.
Does this mean that I can (or should) have the ability to resubmit the Common App after making a few edits?
Or is the Common Application simply forwarded to the RD applicant pool as the “Options following the Match” box suggests?
Because although UPenn does have the check mark next to “Common Application” for both finalists who ranked UPenn and finalists who didn’t, Duke University does not have a check mark next to it. Am I reading too much into it? Regardless, I’d like to be able to touch up my Common App once more. If possible.

@evilninjaz99

To my understanding, you can only submit the Common Application once to a university. And most QB partner colleges do require it… so it should have been submitted by Nov 1st to any college you are trying to rank with. Once they download it, the only way to affect changes is to contact Admissions at that college directly. The items supplied by GCs or teachers, etc, are downloaded separately once submitted… unless they were all there when you first submitted it yourself to the college.

If you are trying to mach, QB has already sent your QB application too to every QB partner you are trying to match with. If you rank to a binding QB partner, you are supposed to withdraw all applications. And that will be the end of QB sending out more applications for you. If you do not match or match to a non-binding QB partner college, QB will send your QB application to all of the colleges you listed for RD. And most of those colleges will likely require the Common Application to be submitted too.

No one but you can submit the Common Application to a college or university. And you can do so only once. So no one will be forwarding it for you. You can submit it now to all other colleges and universities you are interested to for the RD round… or you can wait until Dec 1st and do so if need be.

While you can touch up your Common App if you choose to, no one who already downloaded it will see the changes… unless you send such additional info separately to each college you already applied to via the ComApp.

Here is some more info to help everyone trying to rank… (taken directly from an email from QuestBridge)

  1. The schools you rank do not see your list of rankings. They only know that you ranked their
    school.

  2. After the Match, schools do know which students matched, but would still not have any information
    about students’ other rankings. Schools also know generally whether a student ranked schools for College Match or whether they opted out of ranking schools.

  3. Schools do know if students match. However, if you match to a binding school, it is still your responsibility to contact the other schools you rank to withdraw your application.

  4. Some schools do withdraw those students’ application automatically, but others expect the students to initiate this action. So students matched to a binding school are instructed to contact all other schools to withdraw the application.

  5. Students matched to a non-binding school do not need to withdraw their applications, and may apply to any schools through QuestBridge Regular Decision.
