Questbridge College Prep Scholars Application 2018

I have 0 essays done… Yikes!

@CoolChem lol same!

I have a question about the section where one of the choices is that your school doesn’t offer AP classes. Our school doesn’t actually teach any AP classes, there are a few available through Online Access(basically sitting at a computer in the library and doing an online class), so does that count or would I have him answer that the school doesn’t offer AP classes?

@HeartofDixie are the onlien classes outside of school or is it an actual credit that you can take during the school day? If it’s entirely outside of school, I would think it doesn’t count. I’d contact QB to confirm.

What are you guys talking about in your biographical essay?

@tdampadu I haven’t started mine yet, and I’m not really sure. I feel like I want to talk about the location I grew up in and my house (how that was influence by my economic status, and how I reached out beyond it to explore new opportunities, etc). I also will probably talk about my introversion. I feel like these things aren’t super interesting or anything, but definitely have made me who I am.
What are you thinking of/are writing about?

@tdampadu I’m writing about my experience moving from a fairly wealthy suburban area to an impoverished urban neighborhood and how books helped me make the most of my situation. Also not very interesting, but this has definitely defined who I am.

By the way, if anyone is interested in starting a gc for QB applicants similar to the ones created for other programs, pm me for a link.

I have only done 1 short response!!! I have 10 more short responses and the 650 word essay!!! I’m doing 2 essays a day and on friday, I’ll do 4-5 because I have no school.

I plan on writing about all the small businesses (walking dogs and making bracelets) I created when I was younger in response to seeing my parents stress about money

hey can someone help me with the essays

Can you guys check if you can apply for New Americans award? Idk why it’s not showing up

@mango1212 are you looking under “College Prep Scholars Program Awards”? All the awards and extra things you can apply for are under that tab (including the New Americans one).

How specific are you all writing your biographical essays? I feel like mine isn’t very specific or interesting and I’m not even finished writing it yet. It just seems really lame and not at all what QuestBridge wants.

Would anyone be willing to read it once I finish it?

@Findthejoy I don’t think it needs to be specific necessarily but just make sure you focus on one aspect and not too many

Hi, everyone! I’m applying for this program as well. I’m almost done with the application, but writing the biographical essay has been so difficult to me…so much I could write, but so few words! Anyone else struggling with this part?

Also, I’d be open to joining a gc with fellow QB College Prep applicants…it would be good to get to know people and support each other when we apply for college match later this year

@localfosterkid I had trouble with the word count too! What I did was first make an outline (to ensure I wouldn’t start rambling about just anything) and then just wrote as much as I needed to (about 1,000 words first time). Then I went through every individual sentence and cut anything extraneous out (800 words). Then I revised my outline. And then I repeated the whole process again! The trick is to detach yourself from the essay – there were some sentences that I loved but I knew were not needed, so I forced myself to cut them out.

Also – there is a groupchat, but there are only like three people in it, so if any of you want to join pm me! Good luck on apps!

This is so helpful!! I’m going to do that right away. It’s really hard to detach myself from my own experiences (as I’m sure it is for everyone), but I include way too many unnecessary details when I don’t :))
