Questbridge College Prep Scholars Application 2018

Yes it is supposed to be and doubt they are doing it by test scores.

Did everyone fill up the long essay all the way to 650 words (or pretty close)?

@shipoo Yeah, I think that’s a pretty logical explanation. Thanks :))

Does anyone know when we find out if we were chosen or not?

I emailed them; they said the extensions were granted based on information from the College Board (so SAT scores???) and/or the students’ actual applications. They were very vague about what specifically it was they looked at. I wouldn’t worry much about it, though – you can always request an extension.

What exactly are the benefits of this program? I’m debating whether I should continue or just do the national match program next year… sighs T__T

@sudania Do u think you could include exactly what they said? Sorry, it’s just that I’m worried that I’m not qualified or something…

@jeonghan you can get a lot of full scholarships to summer programs and a large percentage of those selected for PrepScholars get into the national match next year

@jeonghan Benefits: You can attend a conference at either Yale, Stanford or Rice that could tell you about the National College Match.
You can get full rides to various summer programs
You can get $100 deposit for your college application and a laptop if you apply to one of their awards
Also, people who are a College Prep Scholar are most likely will become a finalist for the National College Match and will be matched to a college of their choice. This is not necessarily true for every College Prep Scholar but it is a high advantage.

@sudania I emailed them too and then requested an extension, and they accepted! I think really high test scores might play a part, but maybe they thought the applicant seemed to be promising for other reasons and wanted them to finish the application if they still had some left. Idk though

@studythisorthat if you look up the cps profile, you’ll find the average tests scores and incomes among other details about previous college prep scholars. If you fall in that range, you are more than qualified! Good luck!

@studythisorthat “Some students may have already received an extension based on information from the College Board or the students’ application. If you are unable to submit your application by the deadline, please feel free to request an extension.”

My test scores are pretty much awful but I will try to explain to them why I got the score I got and how I approve on it in the Additional Information Section. Also, I emailed them and got the extension date, which is ironically when I go to a Christian Retreat for Spring Break.

Not sure about the SAT score theory. My daughter scored in the low 1500´s and she didn’t receive an e-mail extension notification. She submitted her app last night as she worked until 10 tonight.

So, I can request an extension on my application? Will it harm my chances of being accepted? I will be honest and say I procrastinated till the last two days. I got all the stuff in but I feel my essay and short answers are crappy. I did get a 1480 on the PSAT, so I don’t know if that helps with getting an extension like you guys said.

@youngbutconfused How did go about asking for an extension? As in, dd you just ask for one plainly or did also provide a reason or excuse why (e.g. your power wasn’t working)?

I have a feeling most of the people who got extensions without asking are going to receive an award…

Also- a lot of people seem hung up on getting an extension and what it means. I got an extension, and I can honestly say I didn’t procrastinate at all. I thought my essays were pretty lit, and I have prettyyyyy high test scores (objectively), but an extra week to work on them won’t harm anyone  I think they are giving extensions to those they think have a good shot at actually winning an award.

@Carl7182 I emailed them, and then they told me that some people did get extensions for various, unclear reasons. And they gave me the option to submit a request to get an extension as well, and so I provided an appropriate reason, and they granted me it within a few min!

Anyone know when they send the results for the applications?

Never mind, the results come out in late April. Low standardized test scores and low GPA leave me worried but I’m hoping for the best. Good luck to you all!
