@chillen Congrats! That is so exciting!! I wonder if QB is choosing a lot of award winners now. . . I haven’t submitted yet.
My teacher still hasn’t uploaded her rec and I submitted my app a while ago… anyone have any tips for how I can approach her? We’re quite close, but her mother recently died and she’s been kinda broody lately…
Ok I’m getting a little scared because it seems like if you apply overqualified they don’t accept you… I would hate to come off as arrogant and pretentious but I submitted my application and was happy and hoped it would alleviate my parents’ financial situation.
SAT:1410 (740 Math, 670 R&W) (8/8/8 Essay)
GPA: 4.0 unweighted
GPA: 4.223 cumulative weighted
leadership positions and founding of clubs
close with teacher rec
etc, etc
Anyways I’ve seen some people who’ve applied who are much more qualified than who get rejected, then people less qualified than me who got in.
I just don’t know how to feel anymore I hope my essays shined through and additional info does as well.
My family makes 62k for a 5 family household (which is relatively in the high range in regards to Questbridge) and we have to pay a lot of AP tests, SATs, ACTs, and SAT Subject tests and I just feel so guilty that I’m putting a financial burden on them.
Does anyone how quest bridge chooses scholars?
@MangoLover11223 Also, after I just had a mental breakdown lol, you should contact your principal to see if they can hand the teacher a gift from you (I’m assuming you’re on spring break). You can have a little gift that says you’re sorry for the situation and then Segway into the recommendation. Good luck!
I truly appreciated it for QuestBridge giving my son a chance to apply great colleges. Thank you very much. My wife was crying when we opened his acceptance email today.
Congratulations to your son @pearcedel
If you don’t mind me asking… where was he accepted/waitlisted/rejected from?
Hi @pearcedel did your son apply for Questbridge College Prep Scholars (juniors) this year? Or did he apply to the College Match (seniors)?
Either way, congratulations!
@MangoLover11223, @romns116, thank you for your kind words.
He is accepted by many colleges and LACs including 3 Ivies (+2 Ivies waiting list).
Yes, he was a Prep Scholars when he was junior. We received a tiny postcard from QB, and we thought it was a scam at first, but my sons school counselor confirmed it is not a scam, so we decided to try it. We only had little knowledge about US college system before starting Prep Scholars, so applying Prep Scholars was a great education for us to understand college application process.
One thing I would like to note is; My son’s Prep Scholars essay was horrible, he says, then QB application finished September was not as good as his final common app for RD, but luckily, he only applied only one college ED via QB, then he was deferred. My son kept refining his RD apps for 3 months, and he applied rest of the colleges with much more polished applications. Without the experience with Prep Scholars and QB apps, his final RD common apps would have been much less polished, and probably very few college wanted to accept him. Again, I really appreciate QB for this great opportunity, and we are lucky that I didn’t trash the first post card from QB.
@pearcedel That’s so great! Congrats to him and you!!
Did anyone receive news from the Stanford or Yale programs?
@Peanutbowow Questbridge takes a holistic approach to reviewing applications, so while they’re curious to know your test scores and GPA, that’s not all that matters. The essay and short answer questions, it seems, are the most important parts of the application, so people with low test scores/GPA are sometimes accepted, and people with high test scores/GPA are sometimes rejected. Also, the median income of the 2017 College Prep Scholars was $35,398 (I believe that’s for a family of four), so it’s clear that it’s aimed at families with relatively low incomes. If you indicated in your application that despite your families higher income (in relation to the average of QB scholars), they have to pay for a lot of tests, that would help QB understand your situation a bit better. (Although, I believe you can get your test scores waived if you are considered low income - I’m taking my AP tests for free because my family is considered low income). I’m no expert on Questbridge, but I hope this answer helped a bit. Good luck!

These people have this week, but I don’t think they applied through Questbridge Prep.

@highschoolroller Hopefulllllllly everything works out
Does anyone know about how many awards QuestBridge gives out (for example, how many STEM award winners)?
also does anyone know around when in April they will let us know?
@laughinglol
When I emailed QB last week, they said “end of April” we would find out. There are no early notifications according to them.

Idk if someone already compiled a list of result dates, but here’s a thread I started about the dates.
@ineedhelp5 Thanks for starting this thread!
Does anyone think i still qualify to apply (i already sent in my application) even if my main family makes 74 k? We are a family of 7, soon to be 8, so i think i would bc on the website it was around 65 k for a family of 4. I also put in stuff about hurricane damage, medical bills, and other stuff that finacially burdens us.
