Questbridge Scholarship - 2008

When D first looked at the Questbridge application she was stunned by the length and amount of time it would take to complete. We added up four years of average award from the partner schools, estimated a reasonable amount of hours it would take to complete app, write essay's etc., and she could see how much the hourly "wage" would be if she would be fortunate enough to be awarded one of the scholarships. It doesn't look so bad that way!

Good luck guys! I was in your shoes last and while I was stressed for a whole month, it has paid off. Just a tip: don't wait until last minute/last day because the website will be overflooded and it will be dificult to submit. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

GOOD LUCK!!!

And to answer the question about the high cost of living, QB does take that into consideration. I live in LA and so my parent's annual income is higher than the median for QB recepients (I think aroun 25K when my family is closer to 60K). But they do take family size and assets into cosideration as well. I would recommend to apply anyways because QB has a lot of leway for what they consider low income.

Hey lintu, do you think you can answer my question about the chances?

Also, I have another question, if I am selected as a finalist, can I change the main recommendations I used for questbridge for my match and partner school applications? For example if I am using now my English and Spanish teacher to apply to questbridge, and I am selected as a finalist, when I apply to the college with the match program, can I change my MAIN recommendation from Spanish to my History teacher, and then simply transfer my Spanish teacher's recommendation as an Optional or Additional recommendation?

Thanks for the encouragement... I can see how if chosen, it does pay off, and even if not chosen, essentially my basic college essays are done - did anyone else notice the essay prompt for #2 is the same as a common app essay?

To everyone else applying - best of luck!

Everything is in and I'm finished - good luck to everyone!

I would prefer to not answer any question about chances because I do not work for QB. And about main recommenders.... unless things have changed since I applied, there is no main recommendation. If things have changed, sorry I don't know.

I still left one essay...I wrote that one for three times, but still don't feel good about my essay...tonight maybe no sleep....

Is living in Puerto Rico counts as living in the U.S.?

just to make sure, we don't have to submit copies for AP score reports right? Qbridge will just see what we wrote on the application?

and no, living is puerto rico is not the same thing as living in US, unless your a US citizen

well if you were born in Puerto Rico you are considered a US Citizen so....

Pray for us! My daughter was estremely busy and actually out of the country for two weeks this month. She opened her e-mail when she got back and saw the Questbridge invitation. Gulp! Yesterday she started working on it. To her credit she talked to two teachers and they promised to have recommendations written by today and since her guidance counselor is brand new and doesn't know her, she talked with her assistant dean who said he would take care of the counselor rec and records. Whew, now she is furiously working on the app. Two days and counting. It's a rush job to be sure but just maybe, just maybe she can make it into the finalists and then apply ED to the partner schools taking her time with their apps. Never say impossible to a 17 year old. Yale will be the only school she puts down for the match since it is non binding.

Good luck! I too am rushing, I decided to apply last weekend. Ahh.. 800 word essay from scratch and two days. We can do it rgmom! :D

Btw, do you have IM or anything, maybe after the deadline, if we get it in we can celebrate. :D (PM me!)

So if I live in Puerto Rico and I am a US citizen does it counts as living in the US? Btw, Puerto Ricans have US citizenship.

Hey guys, I have a question.
We find out about our finalist status by 10/26, but we have to turn in supplements of our chosen schools by early November!
For those applying Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and Princeton, we have to do the common app + supplement as well.

For those who have already gone through Questbridge, do we have to start now even if we don't know our status? The Ivy supplements are killer.

Halcykon, I was thinking the exact same thing. I facebook messaged my friend who was matched (Stanford) last year about the process as to when she started working on her app... I'll let you know what she says.

It's a really difficult process, especially since they recommend giving teachers your recommendations four weeks beforehand... and that's only assuming you become a finalist. Gaah.

Yes, Finally turned in the Qbeidge app....now those great supplements- YES! I'm conflicted as to whether I should write new essays for their prompts or use my Qbridge essays- I emailed Yale and they said they read the Common App plus supplement first and that you can reuse your essay.

hey guys, my teachers and counselor faxed their rec 2 days ago, but so far it still says" not started" in my Locker..I asked them, they said they did, and the weird part is one of my teacher rec faxed along with my transcript, my transcript arrived 1 hr later, but not my rec....I ask QB also, but they said they didn't receive them and let me ask teachers to fax again..but but but..I can't find them during the weekend!!! even though i send email, but they always won't check and reply until sunday night!!!
what should I do????
I don't want work on for 1 month, then lost in last minute!!!

Quick question. Will we able to change the essays after we are selected for finalists like if I edit it a lot?
