QuestBridge Schools and the CSS Profile

When partner colleges review your CSS Profile, do they look at the EFC calculated using the Federal Methodology, Institutional Methodology, or a combination of both?

I know Yale will only consider an application if an applicant has an EFC of zero, but, depending on the methodology used to determine my EFC, it either comes out to be zero or a bit greater than zero.

I have e-mailed Yale on the issue since I have the same problem as you. Yale replied that applicants with incomes under $60,000 will most likely have an EFC of 0. If anyone else has additional information, please add on.

I wonder if they meant according to their own calculations or according to the estimates provided by the CSS Profile… because if it’s the latter, an income of 35k+ in most cases would not yield an EFC of 0.

Yale uses (its own) institutional method. Here’s a page from the Yale site we found helpful:

[Project on Student Debt: Institution Details](http://projectonstudentdebt.org/pc_view.php?idx=17)

Thanks for the link scoutsmom! This 0 EFC policy can be very confusing for kids who are right on the borderline! I’ve emailed Yale about this problem and will post their response once i receive it.

Now i’m confused. On the top of that page that scoutsmom posted, it said under 60=no efc, but later it says it uses Institutional Methodology, and having an income of around 40k=1,900 EFC.

Yale waives the EFC for families with incomes under $65,000, starting this year (see the note at the bottom of the page). So even if your EFC isn’t zero according to FASFA, it will be for Yale. Yale does expect a student contribution from summer earnings and work study, however.

My son was not matched with Yale; he was admitted RD through QB.

so if you’re applying to questbridge, then does yale factor in the student’s contribution to EFC along with the parents or is the 0 EFC just derived from what your parents can contribute?

Does this mean that Yale will consider any QB applicant with an income of 65k and below for the college match?
