westcoastlove, I think you're right on track about how they choose people to give full rides to.

All the colleges rank all of the QB finalists. Then, they have a matching algorithm. The college highest on the list that also ranked you is the one you'll end up getting a free ride at.

But anyways, back to the original topic -- has anyone figured out any of the scores or stats for those admitted through the College Match program?

yup! I am pretty sure you need PRETTY HIGH STATS and really great personality to get picked my top top colleges like princeton, stanford, yale...

How much does personal problems and the things with first generation college bound really count??

What are you guy's ranks for colleges?? personally
princeton
yale
stanford
columbia
university of notre dame

I've spoken with three different individuals regarding to the QB process (all three were accepted to Princeton through the College Match program) and they said that the essays were most important in the entire application.

I would believe that high stats are necessary. But I don't believe that low income, on its own, is significant enough -- I think there must have been some greater adversity, either directly or indirectly caused by the low income or other factors.

My tentative ranking, so far is:

Princeton University

Stanford University

Yale University

Stanford

Yale (Virtually tied with Princeton)

Princeton

Notre Dame

Columbia (only because I don't know too much about it)

murkywater, did the three acceptees have high stats anyway? I know that they may have good essays and great personalities, but I am sure high stats can do nothing but help.

They had pretty high stats. So far it's been 2200 to 2300. I don't know their ACT scores, but I would assume like .. 32 to 34?

My ranking (pretty easy):

Stanford

Seems a little close-minded, but I don't want LACs (many of which don't even have my major), Princeton doesn't have linguistics as a major, Notre Dame is Catholic, Columbia is too far away and is in New York (yuck), Rice is too small and is in the south + a large city (gross), and Yale is just too far away. Being in southern California, I'd rather stay in California for college.

I don't want to go to a LAC either, but the fact is that I don't really have a good reason for that. I didn't list Notre Dame or Rice for the same reason you did, Kyle. And the cost of living is too high in NYC for me to put down Columbia as a choice.

did any of you guys apply for the college prep scholarship too?

I did, applied for the counseling, college seminars and the summer program. Hopefully I'll win at least one :]

what's the counseling?? is the seminar just the notre dame thing?

I don't know exactly about the counseling. We're going to be informed by the 20th. Just wait :)

I chose Stanford as my top choice as well. I wish I hadn't. lol. Anyway, I hope I get in. I think I have, but I'm not sure. I got a letter from some woman named Petra about an African American Seminar at Notre Dame. :)

Why do you wish you hadn't picked Stanford? Essentially, you are chosen if you are accepted for a seminar.

If I am selected as a finalist I will probably rank Yale then Princeton although Princeton is more responsive and understand to my school so I have a greater chance at princeton (my school is bxsci).

I would like to know the stats of the people who were accepted to stanford through questbridge if anyone was.

Sheed30, I've been trying to figure out by making these threads (I'm the creator of this thread). But so far, not a lot of people either know the stats of the people accepted by Stanford. I found some people who are going to Princeton next year but that's about it. There's definitely a lack of information on the stats.. you might want to ask at a conference if you're going to one.

are you guys going to any of the conferences?
me-pomona!

murkywater can u tell us the stats of those people admitted to Princeton thorugh Questbridge? are they slightly less impressive than those admitted without QB.

You can search for Stanford matchees on Facebook/myspace. =p
