Could someone please explain what Questbridge is? On a different thread people seemed to be saying that it was only for minorities from homes without college educated parents, but that's not what the website says. Does anyone know anyone who actually GOT such a scholarship?

Laxmom, Questbridge does just what the website says it does: Connects “motivated low-income students” with colleges that might not be aware of them otherwise. It also helps these same high achieving kids understand that they have opportunities that they may never have dreamed of. Race or family background may be related to income, but the program itself doesn’t make that discrimination.

Diversity is important to most colleges these days. In addition to racial diversity which has been around for some time, colleges are now focusing on other types of diversity as well and therefore want to attract kids from low income families. These same kids may also be minorities or first generation college students – both of which are of interest in the diversity sweepstakes – but the primary criteria for Questbridge selection is still income.

This year Williams College, which is (unfairly I think) perceived as one of the last bastions of privilege, admitted several kids as part of the Questbridge program. It seems it’s been very successful for both the college and for the students and their families.

There are 5 essays (not including the optional) total on the app, but there are 2 that seem the same: Biographical Essay and Personal Statement (option 2). Can we write about the same thing for both, or do they require difference (this is what I think). Also some of the supplemental essays look the same!!! Can we reuse experiences, or do I have to write about 3 different experiences?

it is i think...i was at a stanford conference for questbridge and there were a few intl students there but they may have been residing here in the US

of course for intl competition for awards is still tough for many colleges...princeton i believe is need-blind to intl students as welll so they'll give you the full cost even if you're intl...
