Question about 2016 AP score release in July

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I kind of have a problem in my hands. I am going to college in the fall, and my college states that they must receive AP scores by no later than July 15th. I didn’t indicate my college on my 2016 AP answer sheet (for my scores to be sent to free of charge) in May because at the time I didn’t know which college I would be attending. This all wouldn’t be a problem for me because I live in California and the 2016 AP scores are released July 5th, however, I will be on vacation in Iceland from July 2nd to the 11th, and the AP website says that international will receive their scores at the latest date on there, being July 9th. I figure this is now a major problem because the fastest shipping option ships anywhere between 5 to 9 business days, and there are only 5 business days between the 9th and the 15th. What do I do to make sure my college receives my scores in time? If it helps, I live in Southern California and only about 40 minutes from the college I will be attending. Please help, thank you!

You can still have the College Board send your scores directly for a fee.

You can also order your scores now, and they will be sent when ready. I seriously doubt that your college would have an issue if the scores, for some reason, arrived a couple of days late.

If you really want to see the scores first, maybe you could have a friend or family member in California login to your account & tell you the results. You could have them place the order to send the scores if you are happy with them. However, since you have already been accepted to the college, it shouldn’t matter if your scores are below what you had hoped or what your college requires for credit. Just go ahead and order the scores to be sent to the college even before you see the scores. That way, you won’t miss any deadlines and, if you score high enough, you will receive the college credit.

Your scores will be released on July 5th… It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, you live in CA so they will be released on that date. Either set up the score send now or do it from Iceland (won’t you have WiFi at some point?) You can also have a friend do it, but if it were me, I’d have it set up to go now, automatically.

@suzyQ7 - it does matter where you are. You cannot access the scores unless your IP address is showing you to be from an area that has released scores. That’s the OP problem - since they’ll be in Iceland, they will have to wait for the international date. However, someone still in California could access the scores/account. I agree with you, though - just go ahead and send the scores now. I believe they will start sending to colleges even before the California date. Then there will be no worry about missing the deadline.

@momoftres INTERESTING, for counselors the location doesnt matter! according to the CB website:

"AP Subject Score Rosters Access Schedule

Please note that your access day and time depends on the location of the school or district with which you are affiliated, not your physical location at the time of accessing scores."

https://professionals.collegeboard.org/testing/ap/scores/online-score-reporting/access-schedule

Rolling it out this way for students is ridiculous. Its one thing to roll out by high school to control web demand, but another to do it by physical location for students only! There are going to be a lot of access requests to people in other states in order to get the scores 5 days earlier! The score will all be on the site by the date educators can access, so they are forcing students to wait.

The access schedule that @suzyQ7 links to is only for teachers. For students, you can check out this access schedule: https://apscore.collegeboard.org/scores. And the College Board will release scores to colleges on July 1, according to AP Trevor on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_Trevor/status/746492375330074625

@HodgesSchool so the scores will be ready and sent to colleges 9 day (!!!) Before students in NY/NJ/CT etc. can see them. Can’t students log into college app sites and see what they have? This is a ridiculous way to stagger rollouts

Some graduated seniors will be able to see their scores early by signing on to the college portals at the school where they’ll be attending. I don’t think it works at all schools. And it doesn’t work at all for non-seniors. (College app sites like the Common App wouldn’t have this information.)

I found out my scores early back in 2014 because my college had them and they were reflected on my online transcript (at my school, the transfer course code changes based on what score you got- ends in a 5 if you got a 5 etc). I was also in a different state from where I live at the time (which had a later access date) and I used a VPN to change my time zone to double check them (which I’m aware you’re not supposed to do- but it’s super easy to do).

I agree, just send em now. They won’t go to admissions, just the registrar, and if you didn’t do well on an exam, the only thing that will happen is you won’t get transfer credit.

@suzyyq my tech savvy kids tell me that you can just log in through a proxy server with an IP address in CA. I’m not exactly sure how this is done but this is how they’ve gotten their scores in the past.

So its always this way @3scoutsmom ?

At least since I was in HS, yes.

At this point in time it does not matter what the score is, the test is done with. Either it’s high enough to get course credit (depends on AP credit policy of college and major too) , or not. Just order it before you leave and enjoy your vacation.

If I did not choose a school to have my scores sent to while taking the exam, is there any way I can pay for and have the scores sent July 1 before I have access to them?

@guineagirl96 @3scoutsmom I live on the east coast, but I will be on the west coast (on vacation) at the time of AP score releases. Does this mean that I will be able to access the scores at the same time as the Californians? Or do I still have to wait until July 8th (the time for most of the eastern states).

@ZealousScholar You get your scores based on physical location determined by your IP address; so if you’re in California at the time (or simply appear to be b/c of your IP address), then you can view your score.

Does anyone know what time the scores are sent to colleges tomorrow?

Do teachers/counselors get scores july 1st too? Anyone going to give them a call? haha
