Question about accepting offers

Dear all,

Before I seek the wisdom of this board (I admit that I've been a long-time lurker!), on behalf of all college applicants this year I'd just like to thank all the CC veterans for providing such helpful advice and reassurance about applications :).

After a few weeks of nervous/excited anticipation and paranoid mail-checking, I'm happy to say that I've emerged from the minefield of uni applications clutching two fantastic offers that I've dreamt of for a long time - a PPE offer at Oxford and an acceptance to Yale. I'm still waiting for a formal letter from Oxford, but I'm predicting a conditional offer of about 40-42 IB points. Having to choose where to attend's gonna be one of the hardest, yet happiest choices of my life ;).

But anyway, moving onto the question (sorry, I tend to ramble sometimes!) --- for the time being, am I allowed to accept offers from both Oxford and Yale and then reject one once my IB results come out?

With the UCAS system in Britain, you have to pick a "firm" choice and an "insurance" choice (if you don't make the requirements of your "firm), and in the US you're only allowed to accept a final place from just one American university. However, neither seemed to explicitly mention accepting offers from unis in other countries....I was also curious because Yale said in a letter that I can't accept a "confirmed place", but I'm not sure if Oxford's offer (it's subject to getting specific exam results, so technically maybe it's not "confirmed"?) falls under that category.

Sorry if I've confused anyone with my long post! I wasn't sure which forum to post this under, but I'm hoping that other international students might have faced (or are facing) this dilemma. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Bumping up the thread.

yes, you can definitely do that. dont worry about it. i accepted lse as firm and ucl as insurance. even though i had no real intention of going to the UK it was just a backup incase i did not get a visa. i am now at gtown, my first choice. my friend did something similar, cept he went for UCL. he got into gtown EA, was all set for attending gtown, but when the A level results came out, 10 days before gtown started, he changed his mind and went to ucl.
