Question about applicant updates...

Greetings. I am applying to colleges this year (really in a matter of days...) and am wondering about the process by which an applicant updates his or her college with what he or she has done after having submitted the college's application. Because I have started student research at a museum in which I assist an actual scientist with his research this academic year, I was not able to provide a scientific abstract/paper of my work to colleges as part of the supplementary materials option. Toward the end of the academic year, however, I will have written a scientific research paper, as part of the program's requirement. Would it be possible to then supply a college, if I am waitlisted, with this scientific abstract/paper (in accordance with the college's guidelines)? That is to ask, are updates not open to material submissions (like a scientific abstract/ research paper)and solely for the applicant to notify in a letter form what (s)he has done (i.e. I have concluded my research as part of X program/ I have finished my scientific research paper on y)? Thank you for any and all help.

Absolutely submit your paper or abstract if you are WLed. They will either consider or ignore them, but as long as you approach it within their guidelines, it can’t hurt.
