Hey guys, i was wondering how competitive the arts and sciences college is relative to the other departments of Cornell. I am planning to apply under ED (if that makes a significant difference?). Would it be easier getting admitted under Cornell's Arts and Sciences college or under Brown's major of Biology? Thanks for taking the time to read.

if my scores/gpa matters, here they are

SAT I: 2100 (taking over, hoping for > 2200)
SAT II: Math 2C: 800, US History: 720, Biology: 800.
GPA: 3.85 (yeah yeah i know its pretty low haha)
EC: work experience at pharmarcy, red cross, community service blah blah you know the rest

no, shut up :), your GPA is good haha, especially if you have a competitive school. :p. test scores are good SATIIs are great. "blah blah you know the rest" ECs won't get you into cornell though.

Major doesn't matter too much in general. Cornell's A&S college has the lowest acceptance rate of cornell's schools and colleges, but it's also the biggest and broadest which means theres more room and more interest. Admissions rates can be decieving. If you live in NY State CALS might be a better option because you get reduced tuition, but if you're looking for the classical liberal arts education above all, CAS is better.

In terms of brown versus cornell, that depends on if you have any hooks /things they are looking for in particular THAT year (bass trombonists, point guards, etc.--in other words, random things beyond your control and purely luck), and also your HS's connections to the school (my school had particularly bad relations with brown, my friends school from florida had particularly good ones with cornell, etc.). The schools seem pretty comperable in terms of difficulty of admissions and quality of student body. Both very very high quality institutions.

crap, I swore off stats threads...and here I am replying to one

Thanks sparticus...might i add 3.85 is WEIGHTED?? (laugh). well i have quite a few of "blah blah you know the rest" these are the ones that come to mind

4 consecutive years violin co-concertmaster/concertmaster
4 consec years district honors orchestra
other misc. private orchestras
4 consec. year 150+ library community service hours
2 consec year work experience (pharmacy)
4 consec. year Red Cross (best volunteer of year 11th grade), Treasurer 12th
National Latin Exam: Summa Cum Laude (1st place), 11th, 12th
Our school's Sentinel Award, 11th grade
...other stuff i can't remember right now

sorry to list all my so called "achievements"..but are these adequate enough for cornell?

by the way...how do i find out if my public high school has good/bad relations with brown/cornell/any college of my interest?

sorry for all these questions. Thanks again

The acceptance rate for arts is around 18% (I think). You have a chance.

what is your unweighted GPA? weighted does not matter at all.
