question about calculus/physics classes

hi everyone, I'm currently registering for classes and unsure about which physics course to register for. I'm a biology major and I go to a community college. The physics requirement is non-calculus based. I don't mind a challenge and was going to try calculus based...however Calculus I is listed as a co-requisite and I would be taking Calc based Physics I and Calc I at the same time. Is this a good idea?

Hm, at my school Calc1 is a prerequisite, not a co-requisite. Physics 1 is not that heavy on Calculus as far as I remember, but if you have absolutely no idea about Calc then I wouldn't recommend it. However, if you already have some calc-background from High-School or somewhere else, go for it.

At City College of San Francisco, you could absolutely take those courses simultaneously.

If you are able to talk to or email the professor, I would try that. Or see if you can contact someone at your school who has taken the two courses simultaneously to see how it worked for them.

I would also look at a few of the 4-year schools you are targeting. For their biol majors, do they like calc-based Physics or is non-calc-based ok?

If you are able to grasp the idea of tangent lines, and instant rates of change, and keep up with radial montion and stuff you should not have any problems. I for one believe you would catch up on calculus before your physics class gets deep in it.
