Question about Chemical engineering thermo

Hello people
I am a chemical engineering student transferring from one school to another starting this fall.
As many of you chemical engineers know, chem-engr thermodynamics is usually offered as 2 semester sequence course just like Organic Chemistry.
I currently have a credit for thermo I which will be transferred to my new school; however, I am told it is recommended to retake thermo I as taking two semester sequence course at two separate institutions may cause rough transition between two classes.
As far as I know, Thermo I is mainly about theoretical stuff and Thermo II mainly deals with realistic models and the two courses shouldn’t really be related (maybe…)
Also from my past experience, sequence classes were not really connected for some reason. For example, I did well in Calc III and Organic Chemistry II even after forgetting most of what I learnt from Calc I&II and Organic Chemistry I.

What should I do? I need to start finishing up my course enrollment
From your experience did what you learn in Thermo I end up being heavily related to Thermo II material?

Thanks people for reading and replying!
