Hi everyone,

I got admitted from John Muir college as a junior for economics major.

Can anyone tell me it that a good college for my major??If not, can you tell me some colleges else and the detail like the GE requirement??

Also, I heard people say that sixth college doesnt require student taking english class. Is that ture? Is it a good college??

please tell me!!

First of all, it doesn’t matter which college you are in. Economics majors take identical classes for their major, regardless of which college they are a part of, and the GE requirements at each college are very similar. We’re talking pretty minor differences, if you really look at them.

Anyway, as far as GE reputations go, Muir is usually the most popular.

English? I don’t think any college makes you take “English.” All six colleges make you take a writing series, however. Sixth’s is called Culture, Art, and Technology (CAT). It’s probably similar to Muir’s writing program.

Finally, it is nearly impossible to switch colleges. You have to petition the university and prove that by switching colleges, you will be able to graduate earlier (or have some really pressing issue that you could only resolve by switching colleges). Don’t even bother; the university discourages it.

Every college has good and bad things about it; it’s really hard to say one is “better” than another one. You will be fine at Muir.

So, how about the GE classes for other colleges?

I heard people said in Sixth college, they only need to take 2 upper GE CLASSES. They only need to focus on their major requirement. And then finished…But other colleges, we have to take a lot of upper division GE classes??? I want to know the Upper Division GE classes of every college of UCSD.

P.S.: I will be junior in economic major in UCSD- muir college. I have already finished IGETC (lower division GE classes) in my college.

Muir has the least GE’s out of all the colleges.

Every college has its own website, with a detailed list of GE requirements. You can easily compare them on your own, or you can speak with a college representative. As far as I know (I’m not positive, since I’ve only completed lower division GE’s so far), sixth college only has two upper division requirements: a writing course, and a coinciding practicum requirement. I don’t know how this compares to other colleges.
