Question about current pre-required courses transfer to UC

Hi, I want to transfer to UC and I choose econ as my major. The pre-required course are 2 econ course and 2 cal courses. I have finished my econ course during my first year and I got 2 A- on the course. But I used think I don’t need to take cal courses because I got 5 on AP cal AB and BC. After I realized that I need the cal courses with a letter grade, I took the cal 1 and cal 2 at the winter semester and the spring semester. I’m doing well on the course right now but I can’t have grade on Cal 1 until the march 11th.What I think about is, when they review my application, they can only see I’m taking those two courses but they will see there are no grades for the two required cal courses, I worried whether these will reject me because of that. Will it be considered late required courses for my application and whether will it influence my application results? I’m really worry about it. Thanks!

You probably did not need to repeat your AP credit, but you should contact the specific UC campuses and their economics departments to check exactly what you need to do, if anything.

I’m not sure AP calc BC fulfills the calcs at every UC. Some just give GE credit. Plus, each Econ major may have stipulations. You can check here, but regardless, since you have a 5 score, I’m sure they’ll figure out that you know it.

If the APs do fulfill calc 1 and/or calc 2, you will lose the course units at those UCs. So make sure you’re covered over and above the 60 sem/90 qtr. If it says fulfilling general it won’t be seen as a duplication. To be a dupe it will specifically note the course #.

(For example the AP does not fulfill calc 1 and 2 at UCSB noted in link, although I didn’t look at what the major says.)

hi, thanks for your reply! I contact the campus and they told me that I need to take cal courses in college, they can not accept ap score in econ major. Now I am taking both cal 1 and cal 2 courses. What I wonder is whether taking the course right now is considered late for application? Because I will finish my courses and report my grade at the mid of the march. I don’t know whether we should finish all pre-required courses before they begin to review the application. Thanks!

Yes, I understood what you asked. However, considering you got a 5 in AP calc they won’t worry about your knowledge, which would be the case if you were taking them now with nothing else to show. So that part is OK. I know UCSB likes seeing an actual math letter grade by fall so I’m not sure how that plays out but you probably have stats, which covers that issue.

I would add into the TAU that you are taking them late because up until mid-fall you thought your AP fulfilled the calc requirement at all the UCs. Then send each UC an update of grades in mid-March through the portals.

I don’t really think it will be an issue but I’m not in the admissions office.

Thanks so much for your help!! and UCSB is the dream school I want to go by the way!

If you are a current xfer applicant it is too late, but if you are applying for xfer next year then you should look into TAG which guarantees admission.

Hi, what does it mean ‘too late’? Too late for those two courses for ucsb? thanks! :frowning:

MikeMac meant too late for TAG.
