Question about Deposit and Housing

I just got accepted to Chicago EA and it is my #1 choice. It is, however, not my parents' #1 choice (at least not yet), and I am going to have to apply to a couple more schools for them (in all honesty, I don't think I will even get into these schools). I really want to attend Chicago and I would like to send them my deposit as soon as possible so that I can get my first choice in housing. I know that the deposit is non-refundable unless I write them a request for a refund by May 1. My parents are fine with sending them the deposit if I can get it refunded before May, but I don't want to send Chicago the deposit and then back out later. I guess what I am asking is is it okay to send the deposit without being 100% sure of my plans? Do people send deposits to secure their housing and then change their minds about attending later?

I am really not trying to screw over Chicago. I love the school and desperately want to go. I just need a few more months to convince my parents that it is where I should be. I really want to live in either BJ or S-H and I don't want to miss out on living in one of those by getting my deposit in in April if there's a large chance that I actually will end up at Chicago.

Thanks for your help!

Hum, I'm going to make this wild guess that your parents want you to apply to an ivy or two. If you are only doing so only for your parents (and a potentially better financial aid package is not a major issue for your family), tell your interviewer, very courteously, what is going on. If my guess is correct, you are not alone in this situation.
