Question about double majoring

Suppose that I want to major in mathematics and financial economics. Financial economics major requires mathematics sequence (6 points) which is: MATH V1101 and V1201 Calculus I and III or MATH V1207 and V1208 Honors mathematics A and B. However I should complete one of those sequences in order to complete the core for the mathematics major. Can I use same classes in order to complete both the core for mathematics major and mathematics requirement for financial economics major?

Wolfbrother,

There is a joint math-econ major that seems to fit your plan: [Joint Economics-Mathematics Major | Columbia University - Economics](http://econ.columbia.edu/joint-economics-mathematics-major).

Generally, Columbia does not permit double counting classes for multiple majors and/or concentrations. This restriction plus the core requirement discourages double majors, though plenty of people do it or have a major and a concentration (columbia’s version of a minor). To me, having two majors is pretty much the same as having no major.

Good luck.

Therefore if 2 majors have a core class in common you can’t do both of them???
