Question about Elon Laundry Facilities

My son is in Virginia Hall and is having trouble with the laundry facilities. It seems most of the washers and dryers are in great need of repair. I spoke with residence life and they said that because it is an older dorm they've pretty much given up on having good laundry facilities in there (not exactly the answer I wanted to hear).

However, my question is - Does anyone have any experience with using the laundromat across the street (next to the Kangaroo gas station)? Or even a laundry service that might be available for Elon college students?

Thanks!

I am surprised from the response you received. Yes, Virginia is an older dorm, but Elon plans to keep it around so they should be making sure everything works.

Your son should start with his RA, and if that doesn’t work, raise the issue further until it gets to Smith-Jackson. It is better that it comes from him since Elon likes the students to report and deal with the issues themselves. Not saying they won’t talk to parents, but your son is an adult and should be able to take care of it.

As to lther facilities, my daughter has never had a reson to use the laudramat, but she did go to one that washes by the pound when she was really sick and needed to have things cleaned, but I am not sure shich one.

My son did report the problem and they told him that basically they have nothing to do with the washers and dryers and that he would need to file a complaint with the physical plant department in order to request repairs.

He is an adult and handled the problem in the appropriate manner. I was simply trying to find an alternative laundry facility while he waits for repairs.

Elon Laundry

Elon does have a laundry service - you pay a fee for the semester - they pick it up and drop it off. My son’s roommate tried it - he felt it was a bit of a hassle trying to coordinate pick-up and drop-off times, but it might work for your son.

My D lived across the hall from the laundry room in her dorm and the machines worked fine, but she found sophomore friends in the Oaks who had laundry machines in their apartments and let her use them for free.
