Does being an in-state applicant to Emory boost my chances?

I'm no superstar, but going to the 'best public school' in georgia 'for three consecutive years." and still being in the top 20% with a 95 average and the hardest work load (All but 2 Honors Classes and 6 APs) with a 1980 SAT score...do any justice?...Top Honors (Teacher recommendation awards, National Honor Society, Honor Rolls and Principals Lists..)

...awesome recs, great ECs, lots of community service, and a clear passion for business and advertising? (Started a thriving website design company with a few friends...Creative Director of the school website, internships at an advertising firm and some small company and also at a Community, Region-wide magazine.)

I think it does. My sister got into Emory (hs class of 2000) when we lived in GA and she got in with around a 1400 SAT out of 1600. Her grades were A's and B's and her EC's were mediocre, but she did have an interest in majoring in Art History so I guess that kind of helped.

thanks so much! I have a 1280 out of 1600...will that seriously screw up my chances?

I'm hoping my grades, work rigor, and ECs will do me justice..

Well the 1280 seems a little on the lower end, but IMO it's definitely within range for Emory. Just put emphasis on EC's and especially your essay. My sister wrote about art I think... lol so just make sure your essay reflects YOU. good luck!

thanks a bunch!

just out of curiosity...does being a member of the National Honors Society...really do anything?
