For any Stanford students/accepted students/anyone familiar with the process:

Is starting an essay with a quote bad? It's not a cliched quote but its from Frankenstein so somewhat cliched source. It really ties into my essay and I like the way it works but since it is at the beginning and first impressions are important, would it put off the readers to start the essay with it? Thanks!

I think if it works with your essay, it shouldn’t be a problem!

I agree, if it really works well with your whole essay I’d say go for it. Frankenstein is sort of off-the-wall for a college essay, so it could work marvelously. I couldn’t say for sure without reading it.

Take the path of least regrets.

If you leave out the quote and don’t get in, will you wish that you had included it? Likewise, if you include the quote and don’t get in, will you wish that you had left it out?

Frankly, I don’t think including it or leaving it out will make much of a difference. They just want to get to know you better, so take the route that portrays yourself most authentically.
