Ok so I'm almost done with my application but there's this part that I need to make sure of how do I apply for financial aid do I just say yes to the question that asks so and write my SSN (social security number) or is it more complicated than that?

Definitely visit your guidance office and talk with your counselor. Also, check out the following resources to help you get an idea of what you’ll need to do:

[FAFSA Info](<a href=“About Financial Aid”>About Financial Aid)

[CollegeBoard Financial Aid Info](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Complete the CSS Profile® – BigFuture | College Board)

I don’t have a guidance counselor in my school :s that’s why I need to do everything by myself

I’m a senior in high school I don’t know if that changes things but I need immediate help because deadlines are just around the corner and I don’t have a counselor to aid me with the application, What do I do?

Go to the website for the school(s) you are applying to. In addition to admission requirements (application, test scores, high school transcript, etc.) there will be separate requirements for applying for Financial Aid.

These may include: filling out the FAFSA, which is the government’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (there is a similar website that is not free), submitting the College Board’s CSS Profile, and filling out institution-specific forms. Check the various deadlines.

The FAFSA cannot be filled out until January 1, although you may apply for a PIN before then. You can fill out the CSS Profile ahead of time and base it on estimates for 2011 income. You may need to submit the FAFSA based on estimated income as well.

Both your income and your parent(s) income information will need to be included. If your parent(s) are divorced and/or remarried, you may need additional information from any step-parents, depending on the institution.

Also note: some schools have priority deadlines for scholarships and a separate application process for specific scholarships. Again, look at the Financial Aid website for the schools you are applying to to see what their specific requirements are.

Ok, I’m on the website and I requested a pin and I’m in the middle of filling the application what happens if I finish and submit it before Jan 1

For the FAFSA: the pin you can request early is for the 2012-2013 Aid Year. The only FAFSA form available now would be for the 2011-2012 Aid Year. The FAFSA for 2012-2013 is not available until January 1, 2012.
