Hello, I have a question about freshman housing. My son will be applying August 1 in hopes he can get accepted ASAP and get his housing deposit in. If he does not want to live in Honors housing (which he says is “Yuck”), what are the best dorms on campus for guys? Will the new dorms by the baseball field be available in Fall, 2014? if you could rank your top 3, that would be very helpful.

My son lived in Honors housing in the village and loved it. He made lots of friends both in and out of honors but really liked having the option of his own space where he could shut the door. His friends who lived in the Quad were also very happy. At Auburn it is critical to get the housing deposit in and get your housing date. We were told you could change your housing preferences all the way up until they actually assign housing… But all assignments are made based on the date you apply for housing.

I have had children live in all three areas - happiest one - the Hill! Said the best freshman experience and best place to meet freshman. My one in the quad loved how close it was to classes-did not meet people I their dorm, one in honors village said not social at all. It really depends on what your child is looking for. PS all three ended freshman year with very similar GPA’s - 3.65 to 4.0 so the housing area is not indicative of academic importance
