Question about GPA as it relates to 100+ units

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I simply can't find it. By the time I transfer (hopefully UCD) I will have a between 97-110 units that are UC transferrable.

I made some poor decisions early in my college career and have 2 C's on my record that are holding my UC GPA below 3.8

This 3.8 number is important because I see that there are several scholarship and financial aid opportunities that open up for transfer students "who have maintained a 3.8 GPA or higher."

Since the school will only accept 70 units as credit will this affect the GPA recieved by them? What I mean is... if I have 110 UC eligible units and a GPA of 3.72, but when they trim the fat and remove the non-GE non-major specific classes I have a GPA of 3.9. Is that how it works? Or do they look at the GPA as an over-all of all 110 units, and simply calculate the credits for graduation purposes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't seem to find the specific answer ANYWHERE!

Also: Is it true that I can retake these courses to improve my UC GPA? I read somewhere that you had to receive a D or lower to qualify for course retakes... assuming my CCC allows me to retake them will UCD recognize the newer grade and ignore the older grade?

They calculate your GPA using all you UC transferable classes, so all 110 units will be used in calculating your GPA.

Also, UC’s will only replace grades of D or lower.

Thank you for the prompt reply and exact info I wanted about both questions! :)

^^ Yup, UChopeful is right.

As I previously stated, the huge scholarships/FA available once I hit the 3.8 mark is incredible, and it is very important that I can receive them.

To further my question, when do they calculate the official GPA?

If i transfer in Spring 2012, the following would be the only way to get my GPA to 3.8

Spring 2011 - start GPA - 3.71, end GPA - 3.76

Summer 2011 - start GPA - 3.76, end GPA - 3.78

Fall 2011 - start GPA -3.78, end GPA - 3.80

When do they calculate the official transfer GPA? Obviously I will not have the required GPA until the semester RIGHT BEFORE transfer, will I qualify for the scholarship?

Also, if the UC system does not allow retakes of classes with a C or higher how would they receive a transfer with retakes of classes that were a C? Just an average of the two grades?

Thank you.

The scholarship in question is the UCD “regents” scholarship, which after looking further looks like 3.8 may only qualify me for (much like a 2.4 “qualifies” you to transfer), does anyone have any additional information of the availability of the UCD regents scholarship and its difficulty to obtain (especially given my specific situation as listed above)?

I know I’m up to 3 questions, but things keep coming up! Thank you!

Transfer GPA is calculated including classes through the Fall.

If you were to retake a class in which you received a C or better, the UC’s will not consider a retake (i.e., the second time you take it will not be factored into your GPA or Units).

Sorry, can’t help with the UC Davis question.
