Hill is just a couple blocks away from central. It is right behind the Palmer Field and next to CCRB. Loyd was recently renovated and has beautiful view. The lobby and study rooms are great too. Dinning hall is just next door at MoJo.
My D lives in Lloyd this year and its a beautiful dorm. Recently renovated, the bathrooms, study rooms and lobby area modern and contemporary. Most rooms are quite spacious and have AC as well as individual thermostats to control the temperature. Prime location, easily accessible to everything. My D is sad to leave. You’ll be very lucky if you get this as your housing placement.

When do students find out which dorm they’re in?
I would like to make travel plans for freshman dorm move-in in the Fall.
The general move-in dates for undergraduates are Sept 4 and Sept 5. Is the move-in date the same for those living in MRC?
@GoWolverines Yes, unless you are in the marching band which would move in earlier. You can always move in later. On the designated move in date, there will be special traffic arrangement and move-in helpers available. You may reserve a 30min time slots that you can park your car at the curb for unloading. There will also be free parking in the garage available during the move in dates.
Last year honors moved in a day early but we were not told about early move in until many of us already had plane reservations. Luckily we were traveling Southwest and could change. Also you could still move in later if desired. If iyou are in honors I would ask about it this year.
I called Michigan and was told that all students would be allowed to move in on the 4th. Some may be able to move in earlier (honors etc…) and some may choose to wait til the 5 th. But no one they said will be required to wait til the 5 th.
Move-In-Makers (MIMs) are allowed to move in earlier, on Aug 31st this year:

My son was a MIM last year, and enjoyed helping & meeting new students at his dorm. MIMS have much longer window & more leisurely time to move in, without all the traffic (albeit orderly).
Thank you everyone for your input. The Welcome Week for new students:
http://www.onsp.umich.edu/welcome-week
is from 9/4-9/8 and classes begin on 9/8.
Are parents encouraged to attend any events or is it pretty much drop leave and leave? Thank you.
Parents rarely do…they have a session during orientation. Kids want to meet each other during welcome week…not have to cater to on campus parents.
When I spoke to the university about the exact move in date ( everyone can move in by the 4 th) they said that this year was one of their shorter welcome weeks. They also said the their data has indicated that about 70 percent of parents who bring theory kids to campus stay through convocation. ( late in the day on the 4 th this year)
When will kids hear about their housing requests?
I’m currently a student. Last year, I got mine in late July. Housing requests roll out from late June to the end of August.
@Hawkace thanks! I’m assuming notification is through UMICH email?
@ProudDad26 Yep! The email is through the UMich email that you set up.
The moment of opening up that housing email and seeing which dorm you got is very stressful!! For me, personally, I got very lucky with my dorm, thank God, and was very happy upon seeing my housing assignment.
My S just accepted his housing assignment, South Quad double. I am glad it showed up early because I did not want to miss it while on vacation. They only gave us 2 days to accept it or the housing assignment would be lost.
@Skigropple - how did you find out about the housing assignment? UMich email?
