Question about how Financial Aid works

I'm getting a full ride from UC Davis as a Regents Scholar. I also have $21,000 in outside scholarships. I'm just wondering, how are funds disbursed for expenses other than tuition/room/meals/other things that are paid to the school? For example, a full ride should mean that my books, for example, are covered -- but if I get all my books on Half.com, etc., how do I get reimbursed for them? Or must I buy them from the campus bookstore?

Why don’t you contact UC Davis and ask? Different schools may handle it differently. Also, some of your outside money may have restrictions. At some schools the money is allowed to roll over, and you can also use it to fund summer programs or study abroad.

Be aware that there are some income tax implications on grants that cover room & board.

Congratulations on getting a full ride!
