I did not decide that I wanted to become an engineer until last semester. I have already taken calculus I and General Chemistry. Next semester I will be graduating with my associate in science degree with a focus area in natural sciences.
My plan is to take Calculus II, Composition II and General Education Biology with a lab for Fall of 2015 which is next semester. (The only reason I am taking Biology is to satisfy my life sciences.)
Or for Fall of 2015 should I take:
Calculus II, Nutrition consumer Education which is a biology without a lab, Composition II and a computer information system course called Fundamentals of Programming.
Which ever way I go after my Fall of 2015 semester I will have my Associates in Science degree wih focus area natural sciences. So during my spring of 2016 semester I will take Physics which is Engineering Physics I: Mechanics & Wave Motion and Calculus III.Then maybe in the summer of 2016 I will take Differential Equations of Statics. My plan is to transfer to University of Illinois at Urbana Champagne in the Fall of 2016.
My question is which Fall 2015 semester looks doable? And if u can give me advice about how to plan my schedule that would be great to.
I forgot to mention my plan is to become a Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer. I have not quite decided yet.
It night bee helpful to get take the computer course, see how you like it. I was going to suggest fall Physics, but along with Calc II it might be a shocker.
Don’t take anything with consumer in it, regular biology including lab is actually an interesting class. The lab work is actually pretty interesting and will get you used to hardware rather than classwork and lectures, etc.
Keep up with the calculus series. Definitely take computers if you don not already know how to code.
I really would highly recommend talking to UIUC and your advisor about what classes to take to avoid wasting lots of time with classes you have to repeat.
If you are actually in Illinois at a CC, you should be able to follow a prescribed path to transfer. You may or may not need that associates, so unless you are unsure about your plan to go to a 4 year university, you may even be better off skipping that biology course. Your CC definitely has an advisor to help you make a schedule that is geared to a transfer to 4 year college plan rather than employment.
You will not be on a traditional 4 year plan, but you need to check box all the first 2 years of UIUCs engineering curriculum and actually have all the classes acceptable for transfer (easy likely if you stick to Illinois CC transferable credit list).
Lots of states really want this to be a good path to a 4 year degree - so just follow the yellow brick road.
Okay thanks guys I will instead take regular biology, calculus II and composition II. Also next semester in the spring I will take Calculus III, Physics 235 and a computer course. Then in the summer I am going to take linear algebra. I will definitely not miss a semester of calculus thanks for the heads up! In the Fall of 2016 I am going off to a university guys I am so proud of myself! The reason I really want to go to UIUC for Engineering is because they have programs to support minorities. I am also researching for schools that help minorities oh and I don’t think I mentioned my major is Mechanical Engineering. Thanks guys !
