My brother will be a junior at Northwestern in the fall. He is currently majoring in political science and will likely stick to this since he has already completed around half of the major requirements. However, he has recently become intensely interested in ibanking. He plans on taking some econ/finance courses as well as some math courses. However, will his polisci major hurt him when trying to get internships/jobs at top investment banking firms?

He has maintained a high GPA - around a 3.65, but his GPA is mainly based on polisci courses.

I would imagine it'd be difficult to get a job at an investment banking firm if his major doesn't apply to it at all, even with the few econ/finance courses he'll be taking. I-banking is a lot different than other career paths; the competition is so stiff that even qualified econ/finance majors with a similar GPA are denied jobs as analysts in these firms.

Sorry to go off-topic but you should repost this in the Investment Banking subforum under "Internships, Careers, and Employment" so you'll get more hits.
