Hey everyone. I have a quick question about selecting a major. Am I allowed to pick a different major for every different school that I apply to? For example, can I major in economics for my UCLA application but major in art history for Claremont McKenna's? Do I have to choose one major that will be used for all the schools, or can it be switched up for every school? Thank you for your help! (I didn't post this question in the "College Majors" sub-forum cause for some reason I couldn't start a new thread there. Sorry to bother!)

I’m pretty sure you don’t have to put the same major for every college, but if you don’t know what you want to major in, which is what it sounds like, you should probably just put undecided…

You don’t have to pick the same major for your applications. Just make sure to keep everything straight. For example, it would be bad if your rec letters talk about your interest in majoring in art history when your application for that school says you want to major in economics. Things like that.
But as the previous poster mentioned, Undecided is also a perfectly good option.

You can do whatever you want. You’re not restricted. No college can prevent you from applying as a X major just because you applied as a Y major elsewhere. It’s none of their business.

Thank you to all three of you for answering so quickly!

The colleges do not check with each other. So, yes, you can definitely pick different majors. Even Carnegie Mellon lets you apply to up to 3 colleges, meaning, 3 different majors.
