Question about my schools SAP and Fafsa Pell Grant

I’ve been taking fall and spring classes at my local community college since fall 2013, and have been enjoying it pretty well. I live a busy life and two classes per semester is what I am able to manage without being overwhelmed by everything going on. I’m currently going after an Associates Arts degree, and if I continue at the rate I’m going I’ll be out at the end of 2017, which I’m fine with. However I was reading around on my schools website, and saw something that worried me.

I was reading the SAP policies, and it said your financial aid can be in danger if you exceed the amount of time allowed for a degree. I know that Associate Arts is usually a two year degree, but looking at the pages about it, there isn’t anything that says you absolutely have to finish it within two years, and no sample schedule. I then looked at the nursing and law related degrees to compare, and they had the sample schedules laid out for a person to finish within two years. It seems those are the degrees that the school was referring to with the SAP policy, but I’m not entirely sure. At this moment in time I’m not able to contact the financial aid office about this.

The financial aid I get is a Pell Grant through FAFSA. Would I be in any danger/risk of losing my financial aid if I continue going at the rate I am? I’m making good grades in all of my classes.

You need to contact your college’s FA office.

However in general you’re probably ok. They look at credits attempted so if you’re only going to school about half time you’re probably just getting a half of the standard Pell. So it’s not that you just have two years to get your degree, they look at the whole picture, but you definitely need to talk to your college and get the exact details.
