Hey, I was wondering if I have to take the SAT after I take the PSAT in order to be considered for the national merit scholarship. I plan on taking the ACT, not the SAT. Will this be a problem? Thanks a lot!

OP,

This link has lots of info.

As to your specific question: assuming you achieve semifinalist status, to qualify as a finalist you will need to take the SAT to confirm your PSAT score. Furthermore, the SAT test must be taken within a certain range of dates: March to December after the PSAT. At least that's the way it is for those who took the 2006 PSAT.

What constitutes a confirming score? No one is really sure. One standard deviation has been suggested, which is more than 100 points per section.

Clarifying my post above,
strike "March to December after the PSAT"
insert "March 2007 to December 2008"
