This is a little confusing so I’m hoping that someone here knows the answer. When you assign an “other” recommender through the Common App, does the recommender just upload their recommendation one time and then the kid assigns it to whatever schools he or she wants? Or does the recommender have to keep uploading it to each school individually? The latter sounds like a bit of a burden with potential for missing recs which is why I’m asking. Thank you!
The recommender uploads it once and the kids assign it to whatever school they want
Also, the Common App will only show the student the link to send that “other” recommendation if a particular school accepts additional recommendations. In other words, the student won’t even have the option of sending such a recommendation to a school that doesn’t accept them. If the link is there, then the student has the option. It differs by school.
Thanks - so does this mean that if your kid has added a new school, they need to send a new link to the recommender for uploading? The Common App doesn’t “store” it?
I got the part about schools allowing vs. not allowing additional recs. Although I did notice that some schools say they don’t want them on their website, yet allow them through the Common App, which I think is odd. Be consistent!
The Common App does store it. The recommenders only have to upload it once. You attach the recommendations as you apply to each school, as I recall.
