So, I submitted a request for a recommendation on the common app. The recommendation is an "other recommendation", meaning it is not from a teacher or counselor. The person submitted the recommendation, and I assigned that person to a school. He submitted the recommendation.

Am I allowed to unassign that recommender from the school I'm applying to? Please note that I'm not trying to remove the recommendation all together, I just don't want it for that specific school. Will this school see the recommendation even though I haven't submitted the application yet? I clicked the trash can next to her name, and it looks like it got removed, but I'm not sure if the school will still see it?

Also note that the recommendation is NOT required. It's extra.

I would REALLY appreciate help! Thanks!

I think that what you have to do is submit the app with the rec to the schools you want

then delete it and submit the app for the other schools

common app lets you change your app 2 times I believe

let me know if this works!

Except for the essay, you can change the app as much as you want between submissions. The essay can only be submitted in three different versions.

Thanks! I just got really confused when I read this:

https://appsupport.commonapp.org/lin…-a-Recommender

I think the word choice on that was a little weird.

I really appreciate it!

In the school where that recommendation has already been assigned (going in through your dashboard) click on the Assign Recommenders selection. Toward the top right you’ll find a Manage Recommenders link. From there you can remove the recommender (which it sounds like you’ve done) and then assign whomever you like for that school. So long as you accomplish this before you submit the common app to that particular school, that school will not see the removed recommendation.
