Question about paying for school?

I'm attending a nearby commuter school for college - I will be living at home.

I received a full scholarship (tuition and fees) - but when I log onto the shopping sheet for the school, it says the cost of attendance is 17k - whereas I was only given 12k (which is the reported tuition and fee amount.)

The breakdown of the other costs are as follows
"Housing and meals: 2000
Books: 800
Transportation: 1100
Other: 1240"

My question is - these aren't conventional fees that need to be paid upfront, right? Or, rather, these aren't fees that are going to be actually billed to me - they're just general costs associated with attending the school, correct?

You seem to be correct. Books, transportation, and general living expenses typically make up the indirect costs of attending college. Housing and food would be part of the direct charges, but since you’re living at home, you won’t be paying that.

Yes, the Cost of Attendance (COA) is just an estimate and includes ALL expenses to attend the university for one year, not just expenses paid directly to the school
