Question about people out of state applying to UC schools (UCLA, UCI, UC Berk...ect)

So I’m thinking of applying to UCI next year, but what worried me was the gpa factor. I read something saying that in order to apply, one must have a 3.4 gpa or higher if out of state in 10th +11th grade combined. This may seem like a dumb question, but are the admissions talking about unweighted 3.4 or weighted 3.4??? I did the math and I will most likely have a 3.3-3.4 range unweighted in those two years…

The Weighted UC GPA for 10-11th grades using the UC GPA calculator is considered. Also only AP/IB courses in 10-11th grade will count towards the extra 8 semester of honors points for OOS applicants. Even achieving the minimum UC GPA, may only get you into UC Riverside or UC Merced. Majority of UC’s have an average UC GPA of 4.0+.

You can see the Freshman profile from last year for each school at: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/profiles/

You want to be at the average or above for the best chance for an acceptance. Intended major, EC’s and essays will also factor into your admission decision.

@Gumbymom Thanks for letting me know, my weighted GPA weighted is around 3.7-3.9 depending on how I do with my finals…so I guess I have to hope for the best

Are your parents prepared to pay the OOS costs for a UC?

They are talking about a 3.4 UC (Academic weighted) GPA.

If your parents can pay the full price with no financial aid (zero), you can definitely get in. Money speaks.

UCLA for example sets aside applicants that are OOS and that can pay full price…

UCs need the money. But who knows, there was a big headliner today about the UCs getting more funds - so this may or may not change.

In the end, don’t stress it. GPA is only one of the factors in admission.

@NickMath23
If u need FA, then UC schools may not be a financially viable option for u, as an OOS student.
