Question about petroleum engineering

Hi, I'm currently a first year engineering student and at the university I attend it's a common program to everyone and we get to choose our major in second year. While doing some research on the different types of engineering I became really interested in petroleum engineering, however the university does not offer that exact major. I was just wondering if there is another discipline of engineering that is closely related to petroleum engineering that i can take next year in order to steer me in the right direction of a career in the petroleum field?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Mechanical or Chemical could get you there. Some schools have Chemical with a concentration in petroleum, check that out. What interests you about the industry? Are you interested in the upstream sector or downstream?

Oh alright ya I’ll check to see if my school has that option in chemical engineering. I’m actually really interested in both aspects, but if I had to choose I’d say I’m more interested in the upstream sector.
