Question about Pharmacy Waitlist

Hi!
So I really want to do Pharmacy, and Rutgers Pharmacy is my top choice, but unfortunately I was waitlisted, but I had a couple of questions if anyone can help :)

1) Is there even a chance of me getting off the waitlist? I know that the number of people they accept is pretty small, so do you know anyone who actually got off the waitlist and into the program?

My Stats: 99.6/100 cumulative 4 Year GPA weighted, about 97 unweighted. (my school doesn't have a 4.0 GPA scale). My courses are either AP/High Honors/Honors. I think my SATs may have brought me down: 700 Reading, 670 Math, 690 Writing (2060). (From what I've seen, accepted students were around high 2100-2200). Extracurricular activities are pretty good (volunteering at a hospital pharmacy, church youth stuff, after-school clubs, etc). In state resident.

2) I applied to Rutgers NB SAS and Pharmacy, was admitted to the first and waitlisted in the second. Since I really want to do Pharmacy and got into other Pharmacy programs, I am planning in enrolling one of my other colleges before May 1. However, will this hurt my chances of not getting into Pharmacy at Rutgers if I don't enroll at SAS? I have to let my other school know by May 1 in order to secure my placement there in their Pharm program, but will they see it as "She didn't accept our SAS so she may not want to go here" type of thing?

3) If I do manage to get off the waitlist, will I still get guaranteed housing as a freshman in the fall? Their housing deadline is May 1, and they only let waitlisted students know something between Mid-May and July, so I'll obviously miss the deadline.

Any help would be great! Thanks so much!

If you really want to do pharmacy, I’d enroll at the other school that you got into instead of RU SAS. SAS won’t help you…it’s equally hard for anyone to transfer into the PharmD program whether you’re a Rutgers student or not.

You should still get housing (and if you end up someplace that you don’t like, it’s possible to request change of housing…two of my friends were able to move from Livingston to Busch)

Good luck!

I’m waiting too! Best of luck to you!

Adding a question, we don’t need to send in a follow up letter to say that we really want to be accepted into the program like other schools, right?

Thank you mizuiro! I really appreciate it!

54mas92- good luck to you too! When i was initially waitlisted, I received a letter from them saying that we didn’t have to write to them to let them know of our interest for the waiting list, but that we could send in additional test scores/updated grades if we wanted to by March. Obviously March has passed, but I’m sure they would still accept updated quarter grades or however your school divides its school year up :)

Also, any idea how many kids they accept initially? Like do they accept around 250 which is around their normal class size, and if those kids decline, then they go to the waitlist or do they accept more then their expected class size and just predict how many will accept/decline, and then go to the waitlist if less than 250 accept?

Same situation here. Really wish they could accept people like us who really consider it to be our top choice. anyway, your stats are better way me, so don’t worry. after almost half year of waiting, my only wish is that they accept us before the graduation!

Good luck to all !

So, its already after may 1st, when will Rutgers start taking people from waitlist? Does anyone hear from them yet?

My daughter was on the waitlist and heard last week that she was not accepted directly into Ernest Mario. They accepted her into a 6 year program, the first 2 years would be in SAS Camden, then the last 4 would be at Ernest Mario provided that her grades were good. She never applied to Camden, and was accepted to SAS NB, but this program was not offered in conjunction with SAS NB. She is not interested in this program, and has opted to go to another pharmacy school.
I hope this is helpful.
Good luck to all of you.

^RutgersMa

Thanks for your information. I feel that i might miss their call. but if i have the same situation, i would have done the same thing, go to another school.

Thanks for the info RutgersMa!
Quick question, was your daughter notified by mail? or by the online status check?

starz15

She saw in online and the next day received a packet in the mail explaining the program. There is another thread “Answering ALL Questions Related to Rutgers Pharmacy” that has responses from other students that also received notification about the 2+4 pharmacy program last week.

Lots of luck to you!

yeah i sadly got rejected too but it’s okay! i got into the 2+4 pharmacy joint program in newark and i decided to go. Personally, I think it’s a great opportunity and I did all my research because I thought that there might be some catch. (you know like securing a spot in the Ernest Mario schoo of Pharmacy) I called the school like a thousand times haha and they said that if you just maintain a GPA of 2.800 or higher you are basically guaranteed a spot in their professional years.

Congratulations 54mas92! Best of luck!
Sadly i was rejected too haha but I think I will be attending the 0-6 program at St. John’s University.
For the 2-4 program, were you notified of that in the mail when they told you that you weren’t accepted off of the waiting list? Or was it online on your status check?

aww thanks so much starz15! but i’m still doing my research on the 2+4 program just to be sure there’s no twist or anything haha
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU IN ST. JOHNS! I bet you’ll do great!

For the 2+4 program, I saw it on my status check and then received a letter in the mail a couple days after.
For 0-6, they just flat out rejected me on the status check. But it’s all good :)
