Question about PhD minors at Stanford

Hey everyone. I'm looking ahead towards prospective grad schools, I noticed that Stanford has PhD minors in math that are actually quite comprehensive. I haven't math PhD minors at any of the other schools I've looked at, and this is an appealing idea to me.

I'm in a CC right now and majoring in physics. I'm planning on transferring as a double major in math and physics though, because I really want to get a more thorough grounding in math, and I'm every bit as interested in math as I am physics. The plan is to go to grad school for physics, but having some holes in my mathematical education is something that I'd like to avoid, which is why the idea of a PhD minor is so appealing.

So how do the PhD minors at Stanford work? From what I've read, you obviously have to get approval from both the major and minor departments, but are these approvals usually granted? Would I be able to minor in math, if I'm majoring in physics?

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Interesting. I never heard of PhD with minor.

I found it strange when I first noticed it too. But as I’ve looked around more, I see a lot of other schools offering them too.
