On revisit day, just wear normal clothes. We have a casual dress code, so you should definitely dress casually.

Yeah, absolutely just wear something casual and comfortable. For comfort’s sake, you may prefer not to stand out too much. You’ll see PA kids wearing sweats, button-down shirts, and everything in between, so there’s no need for formality :)

I love comfortable. I can definitely deal with that dress code. I just didn’t want to show up in jeans and see a bunch of dresses, coats and ties, etc… Thanks for the info. Can’t wait for the talent show. It’s awesome I’ve heard. Have a good weekend:)

Thanks for covering for me Tom, Andovergirl, I’ve been traveling so havent been able to answer your questions… but I completely agree. I have a favorite pair of stewie pajamas that I am sure to don sometime this spring.

I also just lost a huge reply I was about to post, I usually copy and paste before I reply but decided aganist it…

nutshell:
zenxan: I didnt study for the SAT–really. But take as many practice tests as you can.
* Also if you have an iPhone get one of those SAT vocab apps, I made witty comment about the word bucolic.

Also, I knew a senior my freshman year who was awesome at classics and got honors for it. Whether that was an annual award or a diploma I don’t know.

Lovey: I’m super excited for you guys to show up, I love re-visit season. For Ambassadors (head tour guides) like Tom and I it’s a very busy season.

also I have a pair of stewie pajamas that I am sure to don during spring.

Hey DieterSama,

Welcome back!

I’d like to follow-up on one of your earlier posts to me. If it’s not too much trouble, can you compare and contrast the rigor of Math 570 (Accelerated AP Calculus AB) to Math 519 (AP Calculus), and Chem 550 (AP Chemistry) to Chem 580 (Advanced Chemistry).

Also, what’s your take on Physics 270, Astronomy, and The Brain and You?

Sorry to be digging so deep in the weeds:Thanks!

What do you think of four years away at boarding school and then four years away at college? Do you think you will get bored of dorm life? (this is one of my parents’ greatest concerns)

Sergant: Thanks! It’s great to be back.

Well, there’s no such thing as Math 519, which makes me think you are talking about Math 510, the problem is that Math 510 isn’t AP Calculus it’s just Calculus. There isn’t a large rigor difference in the courses (in my point of view, I know some of my friends would disagree). Math 570 covers more topics, and more in-depth, than Math 510, but Calculus is Calculus. To put it simply Math 570 prepares you for the AB AP and Math 510 does not.

Chem 550 and 580 are similar. Chem 550 prepares you for the Chem AP, Chem 580 prepares you for the AP as well but covers more topics and more in-depth (Chem 580 covers Organic Chemistry during its last term) I’ve heard countless times that Chem 580 over prepares you because the tests for 580 are harder than the AP.

I have never taken Physics, nor will I unless I can audit it somewhere along the line. That being said, Physics 270 is like Math 510 a slower Physics course that covers fewer topics. I have heard great things about Astronomy, especially because we have our own observatory. I also am assuming that you mean the Psychology course, correct me if I’m wrong. I took the introductory Psychology course, and unfortunately it was the only time I actually felt like I was in high school. The content was interesting but the teacher did not help the bring it to life, as I had come to expect, I had to go out of my way to really learn the material, and class was a dread. The brain and you is taught by a different teacher which makes me think that it may be different, but you have to take the introductory course before you get to take that one.

And no problem, love answering questions.

Tink: Bored of dorm life? HA! No… no. Maybe after 2 years of college when it is plausible for me to get my own apartment, but then again isn’t that about the right time for me to do that? Plus, high school dorm life, is completely different from college dorm life, methinks. Its hard to explain why you wouldn’t be bored. First of all, we have MANY different types of dorms. Right now I only live with 4 other guys in a house. I’m sure I wont get that in college. two years ago I lived with 39 other guys, so that’s a big difference. Second, the issues and friendships you develop in high school are going to be very different than in college, again methinks. I have never heard of someone who was “tired of dorm life”, so I’m sure you’ll be fine. If you have any specific questions about dorm life, feel free to ask.

I read here on cc, kids get tired of dorms and the food after a while. If you read the old posts, you’ll find these comments. People seem to get tired of the food, the often read complaint on cc from boarders.

Pulsar, you’re in 8th grade. I’m not sure you’re quite qualified to comment on this.

Pulsar’s concerns may be valid. If Tink would like to comment on food after reading my post she could have, and can, neither of us have mentioned food so it seems extraneous to comment about it especially when “dorm” (you know Pulsar as in dormitory where you reside, sleep, study… not eat) life does not include the dining hall.

Pulsar please do not mar this thread with aggressive posts, take your faux regression analysis elsewhere.

Bump-di-Dump

when do new juniors figure out which dorm they’re in and their roommate?? and by which method (ie snail mail, email, panet)??

Do you think there is still any chance for the students on the waitinglist this year?

how many new sophomores are added on average? also, do you find that there is a real “community” feel? For example, are students willing to help one another and such?

How competitive is field hockey and cross country at andover? Is it hard to make the varsity teams as a sophmore?
