Question about Picking Major

if you apply for comp sci major, do they look at comp sci more than the other subjects? and do they also look at sciences more than the other subjects also?

The reason i am asking this is because i know that engineering schools look specifically more at physics and whatnot overall, and comp sci just happens to be part of engineering. So if I choose my major in comp sci, will they still look into physics and stuff?

Depends on what school you're talking about. Some schools just ask the major question on the application truly because they're curious, not because they want to limit enrollment / select for majors.

bumpitty bump

No need to bump, oasis answered the question well. Some schools ask the question because they have to limit the amount of majors because of resources, whereas other schools are just curious about the composition of their freshman class. There's no universal answer to this question, it really just depends on where you are applying.

I agree with the other posters. My D was also interested in CS so we have been looking into this. Each school treats it differently. For Carnegie-Mellon you have to apply directly to SCS and write an essay about why you are applying for CS. For MIT they ask about your interests but you don't commit to a major. For other schools you have to specify engineering and then write an essay about why you want to study engineering. You really have to read the websites and check the requirements for each college. If you want a more specific answer you might want to say which schools you are applying to and what your experience is.

My D's school offers no CS classes and she doesn't really have much formal experience in CS to talk about. But when she has asked at various schools we visited about this they said it wasn't a problem and most students haven't had CS classes.

It sounds as if you have taken CS classes and are wondering if that will help you or if they will look at those grades. It seems like it certainly wouldn't hurt you if you have done well and you can always talk about it in your essay about "why CS."
