Question about Prom

Hey, my prom is next Friday (June 2). I'm going with a guy from my chemistry class who I'm friendly with but not exactly friends with (we'll talk in class but we've never hung out outside of school). Since he's coming to take pictures and riding in the limo with my friends, we're going to be eating dinner with his friends (dinner is included at prom).

My question is, how much time exactly do I need to spend with him? Not that I mind being with him, but if for instance he wants to keep talking to his friends at one point would it be alright if I went over to my friends? Would this be too rude? Am I obligated to stick with him the whole night? I'm not exactly friends with his friends and he's not exactly friends with my friends.

If you have any other general tips for prom night, please let me know!

Thank you in advance for your help ;)

Talk to him ahead of time. It's a good idea to let him know that you'd like to spend some time with your friends, so he wouldn't be clueless if he can't find you. It's definitely okay to part with your date for a while. There's nothing wrong with that. Of course, you'd want to spend a little fraction of your time with him, probably. Hope you enjoy your prom!

See if your friends can get a table near his friends, that way it won't be like you're running all the way across the room to talk to them. As long as you don't ignore him though, you should be fine.

haha...I thought the title said "question about porn" and I HAD to know what it was about lol.

I was in a similar situation last year, as I knew the girl but wasn't good friends with her. Before the dinner at the prom we each just talked to her friends. I didn't spend all the time with her. I found it acceptable (and I think she did), but it may have been rude :) GL!
