Question about rejection after prescreens.

Should that happen, is the student also automatically ruled out for straight acting auditions? Say your child applies to Ithaca (or anywhere else that requires prescreens) and the prescreen is rejected; can he/she still audition for the drama program? Thanks - and I apologize if this has been asked before, I did a cursory glance of the last 3 pages and didn’t see this topic…

Doesn’t Ithaca have an acting prescreen as well?

Yes, it looks like you would have to submit a separate pre-screen (and maybe application, not clear on this) to the BFA acting program. I don’t see why you couldn’t do this after being rejected by MT, as long as you were still ahead of the deadline.

Ithaca has prescreen requirements for both the Acting and MT majors. When my S applied 2 years ago – the first year Ithaca had a prescreen – several friends who had applied for MT did not pass the MT prescreen but were invited to audition for Acting, and I recall seeing similar posts about last year’s applicants. Not sure, though, if a student can apply to both Acting AND MT, in which case you could use the same monologues for each one and then add your singing and dance prescreen videos for MT, or if there’s a box to check off somewhere on the MT application that says you’d like to be considered for both. I also know of several students in the last 2 years who passed the MT prescreen and auditioned for MT, but were accepted for Acting instead.

Don’t know if you’re asking about Ithaca specifically or schools in general, but my daughter did not pass to Pace MT prescreen, was offered a very generous academic scholarship, submitted a prescreen for all their acting programs, and passed the prescreens for all 3 acting programs. Hope this helps.

I think that this is probably a question for each individual school. Each will likely handle it differently.

Thanks. The information is much appreciated.
