question about rice essay

Here's the question
1.With the understanding that the choice of academic school you indicated is not binding, explain why you are applying to that particular school of study

For this question
I ficused more on what I want to study (policy studies)
and rlly not much about the school of social science.
(maybe like three lines)
Does this get off topic?

I don’t see why that doesn’t work. I also focused on my planned major (PoliSci) more than on the school as a whole. I would think that focusing instead of the school of social sciences would be too general.

That is fine. I think it is better as a matter of fact as you can explain what you want to do at Rice instead of trying to say why you like an entire school of study

Focusing on your academic interests instead of the school overall isn’t a bad idea at all, especially when academic schools here mean very little besides departmental organization.
