Undecided major applicant to Rice - school essay question

I'm applying to Rice, but I'm undecided about my major. I'm currently interested in either English or Chemistry.

I'm having trouble choosing an academic school and writing the choice of school essay question. My recommendation is from my sophomore English teacher, who has helped me with creative writing. However, my application also develops an interest in medical research.

Do you guys have any advice on what I should do?

just say exactly that. You are not sure yet, but have an interest in chemistry and english. Say why you like each and what links the two (if any)

Then talk about being able to do both and how it piques your interest. Basically say what you said here, but slightly more in detail.

Thanks for the response. I’m not sure if I want to double major though.

Also, does it matter which school I apply to? Or should I just choose either Humanities or Natural Sciences?

No, this has no bearing on your admission or your field of study. You are admitted to Rice university, not a specific school (except for architecture and music). As a result, just say what you want to do right now and describe what captivated you about Rice. Once you get there, you can change your major, double major, triple major etc. at your discretion.
